Volunteering

So, you’ve been wanting to join a brigade but you haven’t taken that first, biggest step yet?

Here’s how to do it.

Should I Join?

As the saying goes, the most courageous part of the whole thing is to walk into that station and ask to become a firefighter. After that, it is all training.

Whether you think you’d like to fight fires, or to take on a vital role like support or communications, there is a place for everybody in a brigade.

How do I Join?

Walk into your local station on a Saturday morning.  It’s genuinely as easy as that. Yes, that is a scary thing to contemplate, but they’ll be glad to see you, and it will be the first, biggest step that leads on to an amazing role that will grow you as a person and help your community.

What Can I Do?

• Become an Active Firefighter in a Bushfire Service Brigade or a Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service Brigade.

• Join a Communications Brigade as a Radio Operator or Incident Control support person.

•Take on administration, fundraising, community engagement, recruiting or social planning roles in any brigade.

Where Can I learn More?

DFES has plenty more information for prospective and current volunteers on their website.
